Guiding Light

2022, oil on canvas, 11" x 14"

Grand Marais Lighthouse is located in Grand Marais, Minnesota on the outer end of the eastern harbor breakwater on Lake Superior. The original light was built in 1885, and commenced operation on September 1, 1885, with Joseph Mayhew serving as the first keeper. Damaged by numerous storms, including a November 1919 storm, the lighthouse suffered damage deemed non-repairable. The lighthouse was rebuilt and moved to its current location in 1922.
